Raise awareness this August - Psoriasis Awareness Month
August is the Psoriasis Awareness Month, and it is a great time to both raise awareness and offer support to those suffering from Psoriasis. Psoriasis is a skin condition that affects about 3% of the population and can cause red, flaky crusty patches of skin. The severity can vary from person to person, and it can have a major impact on quality of life.
The likely cause of Psoriasis s an issue with the immune system and producing new skin cells within 3 – 7 days, which normally takes between 21 & 28 days, this causes immature skin cells to build up quickly on the surface of the skin which can cause the symptoms of Psoriasis, red, itchy, patchy skin.
There are various forms of treatment options available to sufferers of Psoriasis, which should be agreed with your GP or local doctor. These range from topical creams, systematic, oral and or injected medicines and phototherapy. Phototherapy is the exposure of the skin to UVB (ultraviolet B) light.
UVB light therapy has been proven to be an effective treatment option for those suffering from psoriasis, and it works by slowing the growth of the affected skin cells. This treatment is usually conducted in a medical setting.
Psoriasis Care can offer you the equipment so that you can undertake the treatment in a more comfortable setting. All treatment using UV light therapy should be undertaken under the guidance and agreement of your doctor. Our full body OCTAderm cabinet is streamline and compact and can be used in rooms where there are limited space.
